Turn on your home computer, open the photo editing program you use and open the picture you will be uploading to the Internet.
Click "File" in the navigation bar of the program and select "image properties." In the window that opens up, there will be a field where you can change the "ownership" or "registration" of the picture. Change the value in this field from "public" to "copyrighted." Some programs allow you to place your name in this field as well. If your program does, add the words "copyright," the year and your name. If your program does not allow you to make this change, there are free editing programs on the net that will let you do this.
Add keywords to your picture. Internet search engines cannot find your picture based on what it looks like. Internet search engines find pictures based on keywords that are added to the picture. Add keywords that will make it easy for you find your pictures. Use a string of words that will be easy for you to remember. Add your name, the type of camera you took the picture with or something else you will remember.
Open a search engine and do an image search using the keywords you added to your pictures. The search engine will return all of your pictures with those keywords in them. It will also return the addresses of the websites the images are displayed on. If the image is being used by someone else, you know have the address where you can contact the person using your picture.
