CF Card Photo Recovery

When you take a digital picture, that image goes through the camera's internal processor and is saved to a Compact Flash (CF) memory card. From time to time you might accidentally delete a picture from the CF card. When this happens you can recover the lost image using a recovery program. There are a number of these programs available as free downloads or trial versions, or for purchase (see Resources). Once downloaded, the program will scan the card and recover the deleted picture.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop using the card as soon as you realize you have accidentally deleted the picture. When you delete a picture from the card, the file remains on the card until the location it occupies on the card is used to save another picture.

    • 2

Insert the memory card into a card reader on your home computer or an external card reader. Turn your home computer on and open the card recovery program you downloaded from the Internet.

    • 3

Click "Scan" from the navigation bar across the top of the recovery program, then select the icon that represents the reader containing the CF card. The program will now scan the card.

    • 4

Click the image you accidentally deleted from the new window that will appear on your computer screen after the program has completed its scan.

    • 5

Save the file to your computer hard drive. The photo you accidentally deleted should appear again.

    • 6

Remove the memory card from the card reader and replace it into your digital camera.
