How to Copy Pictures to a DVD-R

With the advent of digital technology, you can take those shoe boxes full of photographs, convert them to digital files and save them on a DVD. Over time, printed photographs fade. If not stored properly, they can become damaged. A digital photo will not fade, and unless the file becomes corrupted you cannot damage a digital file.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Organize and arrange your photographs into groups based on the date they were taken, the subject in the photos or the event.

    • 2

Turn on your computer and scanner. Open the software for the scanner. Create new folders and name the folders to match the groups you have sorted your pictures into.

    • 3

Lift the lid of the flatbed scanner and place the first photograph face down on the scanner's plate. Close the scanner lid. Press the "Start" button to begin the scan.

    • 4

Review the image in the scanner's software preview window. Make any adjustments to the image's exposure or color balance, and save it to the folder you created. Save the scanned picture as a TIFF file. These files are larger than JPEG files, but they retain more information that is useful when editing the pictures.

    • 5

Repeat the process until all the of your photos are converted into digital files.

    • 6

Open your DVD burner drive and insert a DVD-R. Close the drive.

    • 7

Locate the folder containing the images, right-click the folder and select "Send to" from the drop-down list. Select the icon that represents the drive containing the DVD-R. Click "OK." The computer will copy the folder and its contents to the DVD-R.
