Photo Ornament

• Making a photo ornament is a way to recycle an old compact disc, ribbon and fabric. Using an all-purpose glue, secure a loop of ribbon to the front of a compact disc, which is the non-reflective side that typically features a band's logo and album information. Then, trace an outline around the circumference of the disc onto a piece of fabric of your choice and glue it to the front of the CD. On the back or reflective side of the disc, glue your photo of choice. The website, babycenter, suggests gluing the photo to a coordinating piece of fabric first, creating a one-half inch border around the photo. The ornament can then be hung by the ribbon, displaying your free photo craft.

• Martha Stewart provides a tip for a free photo craft ideal for documenting the growing belly of an expectant mother. Moms can have profile shots of their baby bumps taken every week of their pregnancy using the same background and position. Label each photo's week and order them sequentially. Then, secure the photos neatly with binder clips so that you can flip through the book and watch the expectant mother's baby belly grow. This project could also be modified to document the weekly growth of a baby's first year of life.

Websites and programs, such as Picnik, Picasa and Free Digital Scrapbooking, offer free features allowing users to create digital collages and scrapbooking pages. Picnik allows you to create theme pages for holidays and design matching greeting cards. You can save these digital crafts to your home computer for printing, email them to friends and family and post them to your favorite social networking site.
