How to Add a Watermark

Watermarks are digital text or logo inscriptions placed over an image. In the digital era of photography, watermarks help amateur and professional photographers protect their content. The inscription (typically the photographer's or a studio name) is translucent in appearance, which allows for the image details to show through. Though a watermarked image can be displayed on any website, the inscription ensures the original photographer is credited. Although watermarks can be added with expensive, frustrating image editing software, many free on-line options exist.

Instructions

    • 1

Point your browser to an online watermarking service. A quick search provides many free, straightforward services.

    • 2

Upload the image you wish to watermark using the "Choose File" button on the service's main page. Some services allow you to batch watermark, or provide an inscription for many different images at once.

    • 3

Type in the text you wish to have digitally inscribed on your image into the provided box.

    • 4

Customize the appearance of the text (embolden, italicize, underline). Depending on the service you're using, customization options may vary.

    • 5

Export the image for use by clicking "Save" or "Done."
