Transferring to the Computer
The first step to viewing your photos on television using a DVD is to transfer the images to the computer. Insert the CD containing the images and transfer the file onto your desktop. Most computers allow you to drag and drop the image folder from the CD onto your computer. Be sure to keep the images in one folder for organizational purposes.
Optimizing for Digital Displays
For optimal image playback on a monitor or television screen, convert the photos to a digital image resolution. The standard digital resolution is 72 DPI or dots per inch. Use a photo editing program to adjust the resolution size. If your editing program provides a "Save for Web" option, apply the settings to your images to maintain the color quality when played back on different digital devices or uploaded to the Web.
Using a Video Editing or Slideshow Production Program
A video editing program will provide the greatest creativity in editing and playback options for creating your DVD slideshow. Look for a program that allows you to incorporate graphics, cartoons and text to enhance your production. Many photo editing programs will also allow you to create a DVD slideshow with limited creative editing options. Choose a video or photo editing program that fits your computing skills and your computer's processing capabilities.
Authoring a DVD for Playback
The final step in bringing your images onto a DVD and into your television is to author a playable DVD. In order for your image slideshow to play properly on the TV using a DVD player, the DVD must be authored using a dedicated program. Many consumer video editing programs will bundle such an program, so choose a program with this feature. Some DVD data burning programs also allow you to create a playable DVD, though the ability to create a DVD menu will be limited. Once the DVD is burned, your photos are ready for television viewing.
