Parts Collage
Place the baby on a blanket. Take a close-up of her face for the main photo. Shoot it from an unexpected angle for added interest. Next, take close-up pictures of individual body parts -- hands, toes, an ear -- to be used as accent photos. These photos work well in color or black and white, or a combination of the two.
Sleeping Baby on a Cloud
Arrange pillows on a bed to make a soft platform for the baby. Cover the pillows with a white sheet or solid-colored blanket. Newborns sleep soundly enough that you can easily arrange the sleeping baby with his head resting on his hands and his knees tucked up under him.
Daddy's Hands
Anne Geddes's famous photographs can act as an inspiration for your baby announcement photos. You don't need to be a professional to recreate some of her memorable pictures of babies. Use a dark-colored sheet or piece of fabric as a backdrop for a beautiful photo of baby resting in her dad's hands. Use natural lighting and take the photo in black and white for an elegant and touching picture.
Siblings
Lay the baby on a solid-colored blanket on the floor. Arrange the newborn's siblings next to and around him. Stand above the group for a bird's-eye view photo. Don't try to pose the picture too much -- let the older siblings interact with the new family member and take a lot of photos to catch the perfect moment.
