How to Take a Full Body Shot

Full body shots are essentially photographs that capture the entire body of a person in one vertical photograph. Because a full body shot does not always yield the most artistic effect, it is not a common shot used in photography. However, full body shots can be useful for modeling or acting agencies that would like to see what a person looks like from head to toe. Full body shots give a clear picture of what your body type is like.

Instructions

  1. Photographing Someone Else

    • 1

Set the camera's exposure, aperture and other important settings to capture the photograph clearly.

    • 2

Look through the viewfinder and place your subject at a distance from the camera where you can fit the entire body into the shot. There shouldn't be a lot of dead space on the top or bottom of the portrait.

    • 3

Take the picture. Make sure the person is facing fully forward and that you are shooting vertically so the subject fills the entire frame.

    Photographing Yourself

    • 4

Set the camera's exposure, aperture and other important settings to capture the photograph clearly.

    • 5

Mount the camera on a tripod and focus it on a place where you will stand. Make sure you look through the viewfinder to determine the best location.

    • 6

Set the automatic timer and put yourself into position for the photo, facing forward.

    • 7

Review the picture and re-shoot if necessary.

    • 8

Upload the picture to an image editing program and crop out any dead space. Since most cameras are mounted horizontally on a tripod, you might have to crop the sides of the photograph to make the picture seem vertical.
