With the popularity of digital photography, film and slide photography are fast becoming a specialist subject. Slide film differs from traditional film in that the images are captured not in negative form but as positives. This means that the transparencies can be viewed through a film projector or simply by being held up to a light source. Slide film is still favored by many film-camera enthusiasts, however, in general it is no longer possible to get slide film developed at your local pharmacy or grocery store. Photographic supplies manufacturers, such as Kodak, still offer slide film development and mounting options through mail order.
