How to Change Picture Frames

Since Joseph Nicephore Niepce took the first permanent image in 1826, humans have been fascinated by photography. Pictures allow us to capture moments in time and enjoy them for years afterward. Picture frames help to display photos in a variety of ways. There are simple frames that humbly display pictures and decorative frames that force viewers' attention to look at what's inside. Most frames are easy to use so if you change your mind on how you want to display your picture, a few easy steps can take your picture out of one frame and into another.

  Ensure that your new frame is the correct size to fit your picture. It is possible for the frame itself to be much larger than your image, but have a mat that fits your picture. A mat is the paper or cardboard that borders your picture inside the frame.

  Remove the back cover of the frame by releasing the holding devices. Typically these are small metal pieces you slide to release the back cover and then slide back in place to secure it.

  Take the picture out of the old frame.

  Remove the back cover from the new frame and insert the picture. Put back on the back cover.

  Place your picture where you wish it displayed.
