How to Use Old Photo Print Paper

While photo paper does expire, your old photo print paper can still be used way past its expiration date if stored properly. The paper usually only works on compatible printers and as it ages its ability to hold the ink will diminish greatly. The fibers that are meant to store the photo start to break down and the ink smudges off the paper or the picture will have a cloudy look to it.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the old photo print paper in a plastic bag and seal the bag so that air does not circulate in and out of it. Make the bag flat before closing it by using your hands as best you can to get all the air to first escape out of it. Old photo paper can be used long after its expiration date when stored in cold and dry temperatures. The colder it is, the longer the paper will last.

    • 2

Open the freezer and place the sealed photo paper in it against one of the walls so that it does not get bent or disfigured by having other products lay on it. Close the door making sure that it is sealed shut.

    • 3

Take the sealed photo paper out of the freezer and let it sit for around five hours before printing on it so that it has time to thaw. Place the paper in the printer and print a picture. If the photo comes out cloudy or does not dry properly after a couple of minutes, the paper is no longer usable.
