How to Convert Slides to Disk

For a long time, when photographers wanted to use a film that accurately recorded the color of the scene they were photographing, they choose slide film for that shoot. Slide film was produced at lower film speeds than traditional color print film, and this provided photographers with an option for increased color accuracy and reproduction. The advent of digital technology and the invention of digital scanners allows photographers to convert their archive of slide images to digital images that can be saved on a disc.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your scanner software and set the media you are scanning to "Slides." Create a new folder where the scanned slides will be saved.

    • 2

Organize your slides the way you want them scanned and saved. Whether you are saving them by date or subject, organizing them before you begin scanning will save you time and keep the process organized.

    • 3

Prepare the first set of slides for scanning by carefully cleaning them with an anti-static cloth. This cloth will remove any dust or debris from your slide and help prevent dust from collecting on the slide during the scanning process.

    • 4

Insert the slides into the carrier tray for the scanner, insert the tray into the scanner, and click "Start" in the software. If your scanner and software includes a "Preview" screen, view the image on the screen and press "Scan" to scan the image. Save the scanned image to the folder you created and repeat the process until all of your slides have been scanned.

    • 5

Place a CD or DVD into the burner drive in your computer.

    • 6

Right-click the folder you created where your scanned slides are saved to, select "Send to" from the drop down menu. Select the icon that represents the drive containing the disc and click "OK" in the window.

    • 7

Remove the CD or DVD from the drive after the computer has finished copying the folder to the disc. Place it back in its jewel case.
