How to Airbrush a Digital Picture for Printing

Airbrushing is often the generic editing term used when you want to remove any blemishes, or other imperfections, in a digital picture before printing it. There are a number of different photo editing programs available, either as a free download or for purchase. Adobe Photoshop and the free versions of the program known as "GIMP" or "Paint.net" will allow you to complete these editing functions. While the names of the tools may vary from program to program, the steps and process are essentially the same.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your computer on, connect to the Internet and download the program you want to use.

    • 2

Click "File" and select "Get photo" from the drop-down menu. Select "File folder" from the new menu that opens up.

    • 3

Identify the image you want to edit, click the picture and click the "Open" button located in the bottom-right of the window.

    • 4

Click "Layer" in the navigation bar of the program and select "New layer." This creates a something like a separate sheet of paper that lays on top of the picture. You should use a new layer for each editing function. This way if you need to go back and edit or delete the function, you can specifically select that step.

    • 5

Click on "Spot healing" tool located in the left margin. In Photoshop, the icon appears as a "Bandage."

    • 6

Adjust the size of the tool in the top bar of the program window. The larger the number, the larger the tool. For precise adjustments, magnify the image to 100 percent and use a smaller tool size.

    • 7

Place your mouse cursor over the blemish and click the left mouse button to remove the blemish.

    • 8

Click "Layer" and select "Flatten image." This will allow you to save your image so that it can be printed.

    • 9

Click "File" and select "Save as" select the folder where you want to save the picture and click "Ok."
