How to Restore Missing Pictures

Restoring lost or missing pictures is a fairly easy process. When a digital camera takes a picture, it is stored onto a removable memory card or an internal memory disc. If you accidentally delete the image or it becomes corrupted it will not download to your computer without first restoring the image. As soon as you realize the image has been deleted or is corrupt you should stop using the memory immediately and try to restore the picture before using the card again.

Instructions

    • 1

Download any one of the programs available that will help you restore missing pictures. There are a number to choose from, including "Recuva," "Camera Salvage," "Photo Restore" and "Pix Fix" and others. Open the software.

    • 2

Connect your digital camera or memory card to your computer. You connect the camera using a USB cable or docking port, and you can connect the memory card using a card reader. Wait a moment for your computer to acknowledge the new storage device.

    • 3

Scan the camera or memory card using the new program you just downloaded. The names of the buttons may be different from program to program, but the steps are the same.

    • 4

Click "Restore" or "Save" for the pictures you want the program to restore. Once you have restored them you can save them and view them on your computer.
