Use online or freeware tools such as Google Docs or EuroBook to plan, design and lay out galleries for your digital photos. You can use these tools to customize the position and size of the photographs in your gallery, and print out the gallery pages in whatever quality you like for use in your hardcopy photo book. EuroBook is made specifically for you to be able to design a custom photo gallery book on your computer that you can then have printed by the company or save to your hard drive. Google Docs is more of a presentation program along the lines of Microsoft PowerPoint, but it can also serve as a powerful and free layout tool.

Download and use free trial versions of professional layout software, such as Adobe InDesign or QuarkXpress. These give you the most latitude in sizing and positioning the photos in your gallery and also include the capability to add customized text, frames and other visual enhancements to your gallery pages. These programs also feature professional-quality output options that help ensure your digital photos are displayed in their highest quality when printed. Layout programs also give you the option of creating templates on top of which you can append physical photographs for your gallery as well.

Create your gallery by hand using a your physical photographs and an acid-free heavyweight or craft paper, which preserves your photographs from damage. You can protect the galleries in your book using sheet protectors or plastic-covered adhesive pages. You can combine these elements with designs created in computer or online programs to create a precise, custom photo book.
