How to Remove High ISO Noise

Digital noise in pictures is most commonly created when you are using a camera with a high ISO (light sensitivity) setting. ISO in digital cameras is akin to film speed. The higher the number, the darker the light can be allowing you to take a picture without having to use a flash. The trade-off are pictures that have small pinhead-sized bluish or pinkish dots in your picture -- digital noise. There are a number of different programs available on the Internet that will help to remove these speckles from your picture.

Instructions

    • 1

Select and download the program you want to use to remove the digital noise from your pictures. Some of the programs available are Noise Ninja, Noiseware Community Edition and Helicon Filter.

    • 2

Open the software after it has downloaded, then open the picture you want to adjust.

    • 3

Slide the control bars in the program you have selected to remove the noise from your photo. All of these programs have an automatic noise removal feature, but they will work better and provide better results if you make the adjustment yourself. This way you can control exactly how your photo will look.

Slide the control bars for the other adjustments the program offers. Noise reduction programs will also allow you to adjust the exposure of the picture, and in some cases you can adjust the "sharpness" of the picture. These adjustments will also have an impact on the final quality of your photo.
