How to Mount a Photo on a Mat Board

Before you place your favorite photo in a beautiful frame, consider first mounting it to a mat board. When you mount your photographs, you prevent them from warping if they are exposed to humidity as well as from becoming bent, ripped or torn. Keep in mind, though, that if you try to take the photo off the mount board after it adheres, you will likely destroy it.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the tacking iron and mounting press. Both items will become very hot, so make sure they are out of the reach of children.

    • 2

Turn you photograph over, and place a sheet of dry mounting tissue on the back of the print. Take the tacking iron and lightly touch the center of the tissue on the back of the print. Move the iron in circles until you have covered the entire back of the print.

    • 3

Trim any excess mounting tissue that may visible from the front of the print.

    • 4

Place the photo in the center of the mat board. Hold the photo with the tips of your fingers, and use the tacking iron to secure the corners of your print to the mounting board.

    • 5

Place the mat board with your print between two other pieces of mounting board, and place in the press.

    • 6

Close the lid of the mounting press, and hold in place for 2 minutes.

    • 7

Remove the board from the press, and let it cool before you place the photo inside your frame.
