The Vupoint 35mm Film Scanner Problems

With the advent of digital technology and the ability to convert old 35mm slides and negatives into digital files, amateur photographers have been looking for scanner that will do that, without costing thousands of dollars. A number of dedicated film scanners produced by Nikon and Minolta will scan your slide or negative into a digital file. These scanners will also scan other sizes of film as well, the problem is they can cost upwards of $2000 (as of 2010). Vupoint 35mm scanners cost less than 1/5th of that, but they do have limitations.

  Open the Vupoint scanner, connect the scanner to your computer and install the software onto your laptop or desktop computer.

  Inspect the scanner and you will see one of the first limitations with the scanner is that it will only scan 35mm negatives or slides. If you have any other sized film, it will not work with this scanner.

  Insert the 35mm film or negative into built in carrier tray. Click the start button in the scanner's software that is open on your computer. Once the scan is complete you will see the size of the scanned image is limited as a result of the scanner only having a 5 megapixel CCD (Charge Coupled Device) sensor. This will restrict the size you will be able to enlarge your photos for printing.
