Things You'll Need
Instructions
Determine the space you have available for continual use for taking photographs or using backdrops for other purposes. Make sure the area is one that can be kept free and clear of debris and clutter. Ensure that the area has good built-in lighting or has enough outlets to allow for additional lighting as necessary.
Measure the area and write down the exact figures. Use these measurements to calculate the space available for backdrop and props such as chairs, sofas and tables.
Choose paint samples from a paint or hardware store. Select a neutral and light color for the walls so that when additional fabrics for backdrops are used, the main wall color does not show through. Paint the walls all one color. Apply the paint evenly so that no seams or lines show that can distract from the photos or reflect light in improper ways.
Install a neutral floor to the area. Purchase throw rugs and carpet samples for use with different backdrops. Buy carpet in low-pile versions to prevent the pile from drawing attention away from the subject being photographed.
Purchase chairs, benches and other items that subjects can sit on. Stick to wood-grain furniture in both light and dark colors so that you can adjust the setting based on the subject and surrounding decorations.
Buy silk screen panels in solid, neutral colors. Purchase large fabric panels in various colors and fabrics. Install hooks in the ceiling where the panels can be easily hung to change the setting as needed.
Organize and purchase decorations by theme to be used in your backdrop. Purchase only those made of high quality material.
