How to Build a Slide Projector Scanner

You can use you slide projector and your digital camera to set up a simple and easy-to-use method of converting you slides into digital pictures. While 35mm slide film allowed for easy storage either in slide trays or in their small plastic boxes, once you convert them to digital images you can email them to friends and family. You can also set up online web galleries where everyone can see them.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Set up your slide projector on your kitchen table. Do not raise the front leg on the slide projector. You will want the picture to be projected without any elevation to keep the perspective of the picture true to the original.

    • 2

Remove the glass and back from a five-by-seven-inch picture frame. Lay the frame on a piece of white paper and trace around the outside of the frame.

    • 3

Cut the paper where you traced the outline of the frame and tape the paper to the frame. Make sure the paper is lying flat and even across the frame.

    • 4

Place the frame in front of the slide projector's lens.

    • 5

Attach your digital camera to a tripod and place it in front of the frame with the paper in it. If you do not have a tripod, you can place the camera on the table and raise it up using books. You want the camera pointed directly at the frame where the picture will be projected.

    • 6

Insert the slide into the projector so the slide is visible on the paper in the frame.

    • 7

Adjust the zoom focus on you digital camera so the picture fills your camera's viewfinder.

    • 8

Take the picture of your slide and repeat the process for each slide.
