Stands
Umbrella stands are the easiest to set up and give the photographer a great deal of flexibility in locating and directing the light onto the subject. It is important to determine whether there is enough room in the location where you are shooting to set up an umbrella stand.
Clamps
Umbrella clamps can be connected to an exposed ceiling joist or any other pole, staircase or similar object. These clamps have an attachment where the umbrella is connected after the clamp is secured in place. Clamps are best used in a confined space where you need to hang an umbrella but don't have the space to use an umbrella stand.
Rail System
Th rail system often is used in a photo studio. Strobes or flash units are attached to mounts that can be moved to various positions through use of a rail secured to the wall or ceiling. An umbrella is then attached directly to the flash. The entire unit can be easily moved into position without taking up floor space.
