How to Transfer Images from Transparencies

In the photography world, transparency is another term for slide film. Transferring images from transparencies can be done a number of different ways. You can use your own digital camera and slide copier attachment. You can also rig up a holder for the slides like a recipe card, placing the transparency against a white backlight and using your digital camera to take a picture of the transparency. One of the most efficient ways to transfer images is to use a dedicated film scanner.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your film scanner to your computer, and install the software for the scanner onto your computer. Open the program, and select the type size of the transparencies that you will scan.

    • 2

Create a new folder where the scanned images will be saved.

    • 3

Prepare the transparencies for scanning by carefully cleaning them with an anti-static cloth. This specially treated cloth is designed to remove dust and light debris from your transparencies, and it will help prevent dust from collecting on them during the scanning process.

    • 4

Place a transparency into the carrier tray, and insert the carrier tray into the scanner.

    • 5

Press the "Start" button on the scanner, or click "Scan" in the software to begin scanning.

    • 6

Save the scan to the folder you created, and repeat the process until all of the transparencies have been scanned.
