How to Use a Pentax Bellows Dupliscope Slide Copier

Many film photographers formerly shot slide film. Known for its accurate color reproduction and ease of storing and viewing, slide film was popular with professional and amateur photographers during the height of film photography. If you have trays and trays of slides sitting in your closet, you can use the Pentax bellows and slide copier to convert those slides into digital files. The unit is self-contained and connects to your camera the same way a lens does.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Pentax bellows and slide copier to your Pentax digital camera by lining up the mounting guide dots on the camera and the bellows unit, and turn the camera until it locks into place.

    • 2

Attach a 50mm lens to the front of bellows that is attached to the camera. Then connect the front bellows section to the front of the lens.

    • 3

Attach the bellows unit with your camera and lens to a tripod. Use the tripod screw receptacle in the bottom of the bellows unit to connect the tripod. While you can use the camera and bellows unit on a table, it is designed to mount to a tripod and is easier to work with when mounted to a tripod.

    • 4

Place a light source at the front of the copier unit. Set the camera's white balance to match your light source. Depending on the model of the Pentax digital camera you are using this may vary, however most Pentax DSLR's have a "WB" button on the camera. Press this button and use the selector dial to select the correct white balance.

    • 5

Place a slide in the holder located near the front of the unit.

    • 6

Look through the camera viewfinder and focus using the knobs on the copier unit. It may take a little practice on the first slide, but once the focus position is set, you will not need to adjust it again for future sides.

    • 7

Press the cable release to take the picture.
