Download and install an image-recovery program. Rescue Pro, made by SanDisk, is a popular choice.
Connect your Olympus or Fuji camera to your computer with the USB cord. Or remove the xD memory card and insert it in an xD card reader connected to your computer.
Run the recovery software program and select "Recover Photos." From the browser window that pops up, select the camera drive or card-reader drive and then click "OK."
Wait for the program to scan your memory card for recoverable files.
Click "Select All" from the options after the program has found files, then use the pop-up browser window to create a new folder on your hard drive to store the recovered images in. Click "OK."
Open your hard-drive explorer program and navigate to the folder where you saved the images. Check to make sure they are actually recovered and can be viewed. After ensuring the images are there, format your xD card in your camera by clicking "Menu" and navigating to "Setup," then selecting "Format."
