How to View Pictures on a Canon Powershot S500

The Canon Powershot S500, otherwise known as the Digital Elph is a digital camera produced by Canon USA in 2004. The camera weighs less than half a pound and features a five megapixel resolution. A nice feature of this camera is instant playback of the photos taken. Viewing the photos is requires only a few steps. Learn them and use them to show off all your photos to your friends and family.

Instructions

  1. On-camera viewing

    • 1

      Turn the camera on by pressing the ON/OFF button on top of the camera. It is the smaller of the two buttons located on the top, right.

      Switch the mode switch to the playback setting. The mode switch is located on the back of the camera, directly below the power button. The playback setting is a sideways triangle.

      Flip through the photographs using the right and left buttons located to the right of the screen.

    Viewing on Television

      Plug the AV cable into the "AV OUT" port on the left side of the camera. The Powershot 500 comes with the AV cable include in the kit. One side looks like a headphone plug and the other end has one yellow and one black plug.

      Plug the yellow plug into the "Video" port on the television. Plug the black plug into the "Audio" port on the television.

      Turn on the television and switch it to video mode. Turn on the camera and switch it to playback mode. The playback mode icon looks like a sideways triangle. Image from the camera should appear on the screen. Scroll through the images with the navigation arrows.

    View on Computer

      Open the memory card slot by sliding the unlock button on the upper, right side of the camera back. The card slot pops ope on the right side of the camera. Push the eject button on top of the card slot and pull the memory card out.

      Place the memory card in a compatible card reader. Look for a card reader that reads "CF" memory cards or a universal card reader. Attach the card reader to the computer using a firewire or USB cable.

      Wait for the card reader icon to appear. The reader appears as a disk on the desktop. Double click on the icon to open the card reader.

      Highlight the images you want to view and press "Enter." A new screen appears that shows one image at a time. Use the direction keys on the keyboard, or click on the arrows on-screen to scroll through the images on the card.
