How to Recycle Polyester Film

Polyester film, also known as photographic film, is a waste product of developing images from cameras and x-ray machines. According to Kodak, they do not contain hazardous materials that can't be put in industrial landfills. However, Kodak recommends a greener option: Several companies reuse the film and (in x-ray film) the silver. Buying and repurposing old film is a profitable business. Be green and let somebody else renew your old film.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect all the used polyester film in one location. Designate a specific box or bag for the old film.

    • 2

Find scrap film buyers in your area; Kodak provides a list in a PDF document.

    • 3

Call a few buyers to determine which one is best for your purposes. Many buyers have pickup or mail-in services, and others have dropoff centers.

    • 4

Seal film in an envelope if you're mailing it. For pickup or dropoff options, keep all film together in a bag or box. Address and mail the envelope or arrange for pickup or dropoff with the buying consultant you've contacted.
