How to Update Nikon D80 Software

Skipping this important step in your camera's maintenance means that you're potentially missing out on new or upgraded features--each release of firmware is designed to help you make the most of your Nikon D80.

      Verify your camera's firmware version. Turn on the camera, then press the "Menu" button. Select "Setup," then use the keypad to scroll-down to "Firmware Version" and press "OK" to view the firmware version.

      Visit the Nikon website to download the latest firmware files. Save these files to an easy-to-remember location, such as the desktop, and unzip the files.

      Insert the formatted memory card into the D80, then use the USB cable to connect the D80 to the computer. The camera appears as a readable drive on your desktop.

      Click on the downloaded firmware file and drag it to the camera. Allow the computer to copy the firmware file to the camera's memory card fully, then disconnect the camera from the computer.

      Press the "Menu" button on the camera, then scroll-down to the "Setup" menu. Select "Upgrade Firmware" from the menu options. The camera's firmware upgrade will begin.
