How to Connect the Nikon SD-8A to an SB-800

Using heavy amounts of flash and artificial lighting in photographs really takes a toll on your equipment batteries, which is why additional battery units like Nikon's SD-8A High Performance Battery Pack come in handy. This unit is attached to the hot shoe mounted flash and provides the extra life the batteries need, allowing the flash to recycle faster and last longer. The SD-8A works with Nikon's SB-800 flash head and takes no more than a few seconds to connect and use.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off all of the equipment, including the camera body and the SB-800 flash unit.

    • 2

Remove the plug guards. There are two which need to be removed for the SD-8A to connect to the SB-800. Then remove the cover from the three-hole power socket located on the front of the SB-800. This exposes three adjacent holes with metal pins inside. Remove the rubber plug guard from the PC socket on the side of the flash unit.

    • 3

Insert the power cord of the SD-8A into the power socket on the front of the SB-800. Be sure the connection is secure.

    • 4

Attach the PC cord to the PC socket on the side of the SB-800.

    • 5

Power on the camera and the flash to begin using the SD-8A.
