How to Store Digital Photos on a Memory Stick

You can use a USB memory stick to transfer photos from one computer to another, take digital files to a photo retailer for printing or share with friends when you can physically give them the memory stick. A memory stick is essentially a small hard drive. They come in various memory sizes and will fit into your pocket or camera bag when not in use.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug your USB memory stick into one of the available USB ports on your home desktop or laptop computer.

    • 2

Locate and open the "My Computer" folder for your computer. Once the folder is opened and your computer has identified the USB memory stick, it should appear on the screen in an external drive slot.

    • 3

Open the USB memory stick by double clicking the icon identifying the drive where the USB memory stick is installed.

    • 4

Open the folder containing the pictures you want to transfer to your memory stick. If the folder is smaller in size than the storage capacity of the memory stick, the entire folder can be transferred to the stick. Otherwise you will have to select the number of photos that will fit on the memory stick.

    • 5

Highlight the photos you want to transfer by clicking on one photo, then hold the control (ctrl) key and click on subsequent photos to be transferred. Once all the photos have been selected you can drag them to the open window for the memory stick, or right-click on the images, select "Send To," then select the drive containing the memory stick.
