How Do I Deactivate the Photo Overlay After Taking a Picture on a Nikon D40x?

The Nikon D40x consumer digital SLR camera boasts easy-to-use controls and a good battery life, but sometimes a little extra power is needed. One of the ways to conserve battery power is to turn off the photo overlay, which displays the last photo taken on the rear LCD after the shot has been written to the memory card. Since the controls on the Nikon D40x are so easy to use, deactivating the photo overlay only involves a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "MENU" button located on the back of the camera next to the LCD screen. This turns on the LCD display and shows the D40x's menu options.

    • 2

Move the highlighted selection down using the round arrow pad until "CUSTOM SETTINGS" is highlighted, then press "OK." This opens the custom settings menu and allows you to change your camera's settings.

    • 3

Scroll down using the arrow keys until "IMAGE REVIEW" is highlighted. The default setting for this option is "ON." Press the arrow key to highlight the "OFF" option, then press "OK." The LCD review is now disabled.
