How to Print Affordable Photo Note Cards

Printing photo note cards is wonderful way to share your prized photos with friends and family. They not only get the photo, but also a personal note attached to it. These cards are also great for promoting your business or selling your work. The drawback with the traditional photo note cards is that printing photos, and then adhering them to a note card, is expensive and time consuming. There is a way to make affordable ones yourself with a computer, an ink jet or laser printer and some good card stock with minimal work.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Ink jet or laser printer
  • Digital photographs
  • 67-lb. card stock

Instructions

  1. Two Horizontal Blank Note Cards per Page

    • 1

Turn on your computer, and open your word-processing program. Click on the "File" menu and select "New" and "Document." Go to "Format" in the horizontal menu, and click on "Page." Set the orientation to "Landscape," and make all the margins "0" and click "OK." You may get a commend telling you the settings are outside the margins, but still say you want to keep them.

    • 2

Click on "Insert" in the top menu and select "Pictures" and "From file." Browse your picture files, and select one to open. Shrink the picture to 4 inches high and 5 inches wide by dragging the small square handle on the bottom right corner until the picture is the correct size.

    • 3

Left click on the picture to select it, if it is not already selected. Hold the left button down and drag the picture to the left lower corner of the page. Leave about a 1/4-inch border on the left side and bottom.

    • 4

Right click on the picture, press "Copy" and then "Paste. A copy will be put on top of the first picture. Hold the left button down and drag the copy to the lower right corner. Leave a 1/4-inch margin on the right side and bottom of the picture.

    • 5

Go to "File" and "Save as," give the document a name and save the work.

    • 6

Go to the printer settings and set the paper orientation to "Landscape." Click "OK." Click on the "File" menu and select "Page Preview." There should be two copies of the picture side by side on the bottom half of the page.

    • 7

Print the document on a piece of regular computer paper. Make adjustments to the positioning of the pictures if needed and test print again. Once satisfied, print the document on 67-lb. card stock.

    • 8

Cut the printed cards and fold each in half to produce two quarter-sheet cards. They fit in an invitation-size envelope.

    Vertical or Half-Sheet Cards

    • 9

Follow all of the steps above with the following three exceptions.

    • 10

For vertical, 1/4-sheet cards, set the document and printer to "Portrait." Size the pictures to 5 inches high and 4 inches wide, and align them along the right side of the document, one above the other, with a 1/4-inch border along the outside.

    • 11

For horizontal, half-sheet cards, set the document and printer to "Portrait." Size the picture to 7 inches wide and 5 inches high, and position at the bottom of the document.

    • 12

For vertical, half-sheet cards, set the document and printer to "Landscape." Size the picture to 7 inches wide and 5 inches high, and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise. Position the picture along the right edge of the document.
