How to Decorate Backdrops

A backdrop, commonly used in a wedding to decorate the area behind the bride and groom as they exchange vows, should complement the overall wedding decor. The backdrop can be whimsical, romantic, or even modern and bold, depending on the style of the wedding. The backdrop is vitally important in that it shows up in a great many of the wedding photos as the couple exchanges vows, rings, and the first married kiss. The backdrop should add to the wedding ambiance, however, and not overpower or overwhelm it.

Instructions

    • 1

Drape fabric from the ceiling, letting it cascade onto the floor. A staple gun or tacks will work well to secure the fabric. Hang on pieces of fabric or crisscross several of varying colors or textures for a different effect. Lace or light organza fabrics will work best.

    • 2

String Christmas lights, ideally white or clear lights, behind the fabrics to give the scene a slight, whimsical glow. The subtle lighting will help draw attention to the couple and give the area a soft ambiance.

    • 3

Place arrangements of flowers in the wedding colors or in white on the floor behind the couple and in front of the fabric. Flowers could be simple white roses or exotic and colorful flowers such as orchids.

    • 4

Tie ribbons around the fabrics or around the vases of the centerpieces as a finishing touch. Use wedding colors or simple neutral colors such as white.
