How to Hide Urban Cameras Outside

Hiding an urban camera outside is useful for nature enthusiasts of all sorts. Cameras come in all shapes and sizes but, unless they're manufactured with camouflaged cases, they are distracting to animals and can even scare them away. Create a camouflaging outfit for your camera, so you can hide it on outdoor adventures. Hiding your camera in this way can help you get otherwise difficult or impossible nature shots, because animals will often walk right up to your setup without realizing it's there.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the circumference of your camera lens. Write down the measurements and add one half inch. Draw a circle with same circumference in the center of one of the four sides of the box. Cut out the circle with a box cutter.

    • 2

Glue leaves to the box with craft glue as camouflage. Cover the entire outside surface of the box. Make sure the leaves are fairly dense. The goal is to make the box look like a clump of leaves. Leave space around the circle you cut in Step 1. Leaves covering the opening will interfere with the camera lens. Wait for the glue to dry.

    • 3

Place the camera on a tripod and secure it tightly. Connect a shutter cable or enable the remote shooting feature on your camera. Set your camera settings to AUTO or focus, and set the aperture and shutter speed so they're appropriate for the nature photographs you're taking.

    • 4

Slip the box over the top of the camera. Line up the lens with the hole you created in Step 1. Position the box so that the lens doesn't stick out through the hole.

    • 5

Tape the lid flaps down onto the tripod pole with brown tape to fasten it to the camera. If you're using a shutter cable, make sure that the cable runs down and out of the box lids, so you can still operate your camera fully.
