How to Protect Your Camera in a Motorcycle Bag

Transporting delicate camera equipment on a motorcycle is a challenging task. Several considerations come into play when making packing decisions for this type of transport. How much does your bike vibrate? What are the weather conditions? What type of equipment do you own? Cameras are sensitive to vibration and impact; both of which are imminent dangers on a motorcycle. Packing correctly minimizes risk to the camera and other photography equipment you are taking on your trip.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a location for your camera on the bike. If you want easy access to the camera during your ride, keep it in a motorcycle handle bag or tank case so you don't have to dig around too much and miss your shot. Keeping it in a saddle bag is a good option if you want to keep it secure throughout the entirety of the ride.

    • 2

Pick a motorcycle bag that is both crush-proof and waterproof. These design elements protect the camera from outdoor elements such as wind and rain. These bags also minimize the amount of damage to the camera in case of an accident.

    • 3

Place your camera and other equipment such as lenses and batteries in a camera case. Store each element in a separate compartment of the bag so they don't hit one another during the ride.

    • 4

Wrap the camera bag in bubble wrap to absorb shock from the vibrations of the motor. Tape the bubble wrap to itself to secure it around the bag.

    • 5

Wrap a towel neatly around the bubble wrap. Fold the ends to the bottom of the bag.

    • 6

Place the wrapped bag into the location you chose in Step 1. Close and secure the bag until you reach your destination.
