How to Make a Photo Book at Home

Making a photo book out of your digital pictures creates lasting memories and adds a personal touch to your photos. Photo books can be given as gifts to family and friends for holidays, birthdays and even weddings. Photo books can be sent to grandparents to hold as keepsakes of their grandchildren or can even be made for a bride and groom of their special day. There are many ways that you can make a photo book, but making one at home is both affordable and convenient as you can pick and choose your pictures and even write anecdotes to include of your precious moments.

  Think of a theme of your photo book. For instance, if a child has just turned one, you can include pictures from the day he was born until his first birthday and title it "Months 1 through 12." You can include pictures of his milestones like his first smile or even his first step.

  Organize the photos on your computer, put them into a folder labeled “Photo Book” and save the folder to your desktop. You can even organize the photos using an existing photo application that you have downloaded onto your computer. This allows your digital photos to be easily accessible later.

  Log onto www.shutterfly.com with your user name and password that you can create for free and click on the link titled “Photo Books.” You will have the option to click on “Custom Path.” Clicking on “Custom Path” allows you to choose from a large collection of backgrounds and layouts for your photo book.

  Choose the size and type of photo book that you prefer. You may choose from five different size options and you may also choose hard cover, soft cover or another type of fabric such as leather for your cover.

  Click on the link “Get Started” to customize your photo book with different background options, layouts and edges for the pages of the photo book. Here you can also add text and customize the front and back cover of your book.

  Upload the pictures that you would like to include in your photo book by accessing them in your folder, “Photo Book” that you have already created located on your desktop or in your photo application on your computer.

  Name your project and then preview it to ensure that your photo book is exactly how you like it. If you would like to make changes, select “Edit” to make the appropriate changes to your photo book before you save it and place your order.

  Click on “Order” to process the order for your photo book. Here you can change the quantity and enter the shipping details of the recipient.

  Click “Add to Cart” to add your photo book to your cart, to complete the order and to enter in your credit card details to process your order for the photo book.
