A photomontage is a carefully prepared slide-show set to music that honors a specific person or event, such as a birthday, wedding or memorial service. One of the most important elements of the photomontage is the background music or soundtrack that helps to move the story along and set a tone. Selecting music may seem like a daunting task, given the vast amount of resources and song titles available. Nevertheless, customizing the photomontage with personalized and meaningful music can dramatically improve your presentation.

  Look through your photos and focus on a particular commemorative event or celebration. Identify the theme of your photomontage. Note the tone portrayed visually, whether it is dramatic, festive, celebratory, humorous, romantic or reverent.

  Match the personality of the images with emotionally-charged and meaningful music that enhances the photos. Select music to capture the personality of the person for whom the montage is honoring, or music that includes lyrics that fit the occasion.

  Sort through your music collection to find favorite songs from various times of the person's life. Search for titles that are relevant to the occasion.

  Browse websites that offer music samples, a database of downloadable music or a catalog of copyright-free music from which you can get inspiration or actual full-length music tracks (see Resources).
