Supplies
Materials used in dry mounting include dry mount tissue, release paper and either an apparel iron or mounting press accompanied by a tacking iron. Professional mounting presses sell for approximately $600 to $1,600 in 2010.
Preparation
Cut the backing board to the desired framing size and the mounting tissue to the size of the photograph. Preheat presses according to the specifications in their manuals. Set apparel irons to low.
Protecting Tools and Photograph
Whenever pressing tissue into a photo or mounting board, insert release paper between the iron and surface.
Securing the Tissue
With the tissue and release paper covering the back of the photo, press the tip of a hot iron into the center. This melts the tissue into the back of the photo. Then the tissue is adhered to the four corners of the mounting board.
Securing the Print
Fold a large piece of release paper in half. Insert the photo and mount board into the release paper. Apply heat and pressure using a hand iron or mounting press.
