How to Fix Pet Eyes in Photos

A simple picture of a pet can often yield creepy results, especially in dim lighting with a camera's flash. Due to the structure of many animals' eyes, as in human eyes, light from a flash passes very quickly through the pupil and reflects off of blood inside the eye, creating a red appearance. Since the effect is purely photographic, it can be removed easily with a variety of photo-editing software.

Choose a method to fix distorted eye colors on pictures of pets, such as using Pet Eye Pilot, HP Photosmart Essentials, or digital image software such as Photoshop, MS Paint or Gimp.

    • 2

Download Pet Eye Pilot for free from its hosting website. This program is designed especially to minimize distorted eye color in pets, which can appear in a small variety of colors beyond that found in humans. Simply select problematic eyes with the tool and use the interface to change brightness, coloring, and other settings.

Utilize HP's Photosmart Essential application for easy removal of pet-eye. The tool simply requires clicking on a pet's eye with a magnification tool, though it doesn't allow for customized alterations.

Open a free digital image program on your computer such as MS Paint, download a free option such as Gimp or buy a program such as Photoshop for extra features. These programs all have features to zoom into a specific area in a picture, in this case a pet's eye, and use drawing tools to change the coloring manually in the picture. These tools can all be found on the interface of these programs.
