How to Take an Action Shot With a Canon Rebel Xti

The Canon Rebel XTi is a digital SLR camera with a wide variety of photography options for both the amateur and the professional photographer. By following a few simple steps, even a novice photographer can take fantastic action shots using this camera. By changing just one setting on the camera, you can create either a crisp image of frozen motion or a blurred image that suggests fast movement. You can also set up your camera to take continuous shots to ensure that you capture that one perfect moment.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the camera using the power switch located on the top.

    • 2

Press the drive mode selection button located on the back of the camera, then use the right arrow key to select the middle option labeled "continuous shooting."

    • 3

Rotate the mode dial on the top of the camera to select the Tv (Time value) mode.

    • 4

Rotate the main dial located on the top of the camera to select a shutter speed. Turning the dial to the right will increase the shutter speed and will result in a more crisp, "frozen" action shot. Turning the dial to the left will decrease the shutter speed and result in a blurred image that suggests fast movement.

Aim your camera at the subject and press down the shutter button halfway to focus. When your subject is in focus, hold down the shutter button. In continuous shooting mode, the camera will take approximately three action shots per second for as long as the shutter button is held down.
