How to Make a Photo Booth Strip

Photo booth strips are long strips of photographic paper that have multiple photos running vertically downward. Historically, these pictures were taken in small photo booth machines. The user enters, closes the curtain and poses for the camera while it takes a series of shots. After the film quickly develops in the machine, the photo strip drops out to be used as a memento. Now, with digital technology, it is possible to recreate the look and feel of these classic photo strips on your home computer.

Instructions

  1. Online

    • 1

Go to the site called "Big Huge Labs" or another photo booth source like it.

    • 2

Create a free account with your name, email, user name and password.

    • 3

Go back to the homepage and find the large photo strip outline. Click on the first square that says "Choose Photo." You have the choice to upload the file from your computer or import it from Flickr or Facebook. Do the same for all four photo squares.

    • 4

Check the boxes below the outline if you want to convert the photos to black and white or create a vintage style.

    • 5

Click on the "Create" button at the bottom of the screen to watch the film strip develop. Save the file to your computer and print it out on regular or photographic paper.

    Adobe Photoshop

    • 6

Download a photo booth brush set. There are several available online and you will be able to find them if you do a search. "Get Brushed" is one of the useful sites.

    • 7

Unzip the file. Save the .abr file in the Adobe Photoshop presets folder. The file extension for Windows is C:\program files\adobe\photoshop(x)\presets\brushes. For Mac the folder is located at hard disk\applications\adobe photoshop(x)\presets\brushes. X indicates the version of the application.

    • 8

Open Adobe Photoshop and import four pictures that have a total dimension of 2420 by 466 pixels. Click on your brush tool or press "B" on your keyboard to use it.

    • 9

Click on the down arrow next to the box that says "Brush" at the top of the screen where a brush menu appears. A larger box appears that has a small arrow pointing to the side. Click on that and scroll to the photo booth file that you saved. Click on it to add the tools to your brush palette.

    • 10

Click on one of the three brush tools. Drag your cursor onto the photo you imported and lay the photo strip outline over the photo to align it. Once the photo strip is laid on top of your pictures, save your file or print it.
