Ideas for a Photo Backsplash

A photo backsplash is a term which refers to the backdrop of a photograph. Professional photographers use backdrops to create different textures and to pick up light in a picture. It is important for studio photographers to have the proper backdrops to create a professional look for their clients. For beginning photographers, purchasing a lot of expensive photography equipment is often out of the question. However, there are quite a few options to create a studio environment out of available materials.
  1. Fabric and Sheets

    • Fabric and sheets provide a nice, textured background for photographs. You choose the color and pattern. Plain sheets absorb and reflect light nicely and created a clean feeling in the photograph. Patterned sheets also absorb and reflect light but distract the eye from the subject. Hang fabric or sheets from the ceiling or a backdrop stand.

    Butcher Paper

    • Large sheets of butcher paper come in a variety of colors. When rolled out they create a smooth, reflective surface. Dark colors absorb light and light colors reflect it. Butcher paper creates a flawless looking surface for your photographs. Hang this from the ceiling or clamp it to a backdrop stand.

    Painted Wall

    • Pick out an eggshell finish paint from the hardware store. If you have a blank wall you want to use for shooting, change the background with a different color. A quick coat of paint changes the whole mood and light distribution of a photograph.
