How to Make a Fisheye Camera

A fisheye camera lens is a lens that has at least a 180-degree angle, which creates a broad, spherical image. The wide angle of the lens captures more information than a normal lens. This makes the image appear expansive, convex and distorted. Originally developed for meteorology, fisheye camera lenses are often used in landscape and sports photography. The lens is also used for photographing in tight spaces. It's not difficult to create a detachable wide-angle lens, which can convert your camera into a fisheye camera.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Select a PVC pipe that is wider than your camera's lens. Cut a length of PVC pipe so it is as long as the lens on your camera plus the length of the wide angle door viewer.

    • 2

Cut a long strip of art foam as wide as the length of the wide angle door viewer. Wrap the full length of the craft foam strip around the door viewer and secure it with masking tape. Continue increasing the width of the door viewer with strips of foam until it fits tightly into the PVC pipe.

    • 3

Cut a long strip of craft foam as wide as the length of your camera's lens. Wrap enough of the foam around the camera's lens so the lens fits tightly into the PVC pipe on the opposite end from the door viewer. Remove the foam from the lens. Secure the foam to the inside of the PVC pipe with tape.

Place your new lens back on the camera to take photographs with a fisheye effect.
