How to Transfer From a Kodak Slide to a Computer

Transferring pictures from a Kodak slide to a computer is a process which can be done by a professional or by using a home scanner. Digitizing your slides will help you conserve storage space, preserve memories and protect the images from deterioration over time. Once your slides are on the computer, you can edit, print, store and archive your images with a few clicks of a mouse, allowing you to enjoy your slides without the need for a projector.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide whether you would like to have the slides scanned professionally or to attempt home scanning, which will require a negative scanner.

    • 2

Check to make sure your scanner has the ability to scan slides. Look for a feed slot where a negative carrier can be inserted.

    • 3

Clean your slides. Gently wipe the slides with a soft, lint free cloth to remove any dust or debris.

    • 4

Open the slide carrier. Carefully drop the slides into the aligned spaces, touching only the paper sleeve. Repeat until the carrier is full, then gently close the carrier, making sure the slides are secure.

    • 5

Insert the carrier into the scanner; this procedure will vary based on the type of scanner being used. Insert the carrier into the feed slot. The scanner should automatically take the carrier and align it with the scanning element. The scanning process may begin automatically; if not, press the scan button.

Review the scanned images in a photo editing program or your scanner software. Make any changes or adjustments, such as removing dust or correcting color balance. Once your images are adjusted, save the files to your computer.
