How to Increase the Shutter Speed With a Nikon D80

The Nikon D80 is a powerful digital single-lens reflex camera that offers many modes to suit both amateur and professional photographers. Modes such as Manual, Program and Shutter Priority allow the photographer to change the shutter speed. Once the camera is in these modes, a dial located on the left-hand side of the camera body controls the adjustment of the shutter speed.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a mode that allows you to alter the shutter speed. You will need to be in Shutter Priority, Program or Manual mode.

    • 2

Use the dial located on the left-hand side of the back of the camera body to adjust the shutter speed. Turn the dial to the right to increase the speed and to the left to decrease the speed.

    • 3

Adjust the ISO sensitivity or the aperture setting to compensate for the light removed by the faster shutter, if necessary. ISO is adjustable in any mode that allows you to adjust shutter speed. The aperture may be adjusted in Program or fully Manual modes.

    • 4

Compose and take your image using the new shutter speed.
