How to Change the Internet Options When Pictures are Red X's

Some web pages display pictures as red x's. There are a number of reasons for this, but they all have to do with the Internet options you have selected. You may have to change several options for your pictures to display properly.

Instructions

  1. Temporary Files

    • 1

      Clear your temporary Internet files to create more space on your hard drive.

      Open Internet Explorer 8. Go to "Tools" and click "Internet Options."

      Click on the "General" tab and select "Delete" in the "Browsing History" section.

      Click all of the boxes except "Temporary Internet Files" to clear them in the "Delete Browsing History" dialogue box. Click "Delete."

      Select "OK" to close the dialogue box for "Internet Options."

    Show Pictures

    • 6

      Go to "Tools" and click "Internet Options."

      Select the "Advanced" tab and ensure that "Show Pictures" is selected under "Multimedia."

      Click "OK" to close the dialogue box.

    Scripting, ActiveX, Cookies & Java

      Select "Tools" from the menu, and click "Internet Options."

      Choose the "Security" tab. For the "Internet Zone," select "Default Level."

      Check to see if you can view images. If not, you may have to call a professional.
