How to Restore Deleted Pictures on a Memory Card

Deleting pictures from a memory stick can actually be an act of habit. Often, one glances at the digital display and quickly chooses to keep or delete a picture. Unfortunately, it is better to wait until you can view the photos on your computer screen to make that decision, as the digital display of most cameras isn't large enough to tell for sure. If you do delete a picture that you think you really wanted to keep, there is an option to recover it with some software.

Instructions

    • 1

Do not take any more pictures on the memory stick once you realize you have deleted a photograph that you wanted to keep.

    • 2

Attach your camera to the computer with the USB cable. Make sure that your memory stick is installed in the camera. Look in "My Computer" and determine what letter drive your camera is.

    • 3

Download the picture recovery software from Card Recovery using the link in the resources section.

    • 4

Start the Card Recovery program by going to Start-->Programs and selecting the Card Recovery software. Click "Next" to choose the letter drive of your camera, and to indicate where you would like your recovered pictures to be saved.

    • 5

Click "Next" to begin the scan of your camera.

    • 6

Select "Next" when the scan is complete to preview the recovered pictures. If none show up, the software was unable to recover your photos.

    • 7

Save your recovered photographs to the indicated location that you chose earlier.
