How to Mount Photo Prints

Photo prints are mounted by attaching them to a photo mat. The mat and photo are then put into a frame. Mounting is a great way to showcase a photo. Photo mats usually come in white or black. It is best to use a color that deeply contrasts the photo. Photo mounting requires tape to secure the photo to the mat, so acid-free tape should be used in order to preserve the photo

Instructions

    • 1

Place a photo on a table, facing up.

    • 2

Move the photo to the edge of the table so the top couple of inches hang off.

    • 3

Place the mat on top of the photo.

    • 4

Make sure the photo is centered and fills all of the clear space within the mat.

    • 5

Tear off a couple of pieces of acid free tape.

    • 6

Take the tape and put it on the bottom of the part of the photo that is hanging off the table.

    • 7

The tape should go over the photo and the mat, so they are secure together.

    • 8

Carefully turn the photo and mat over and attach two more pieces of acid-free tape to the bottom of the photo.

    • 9

Place the mat and photo on top of the cardboard backing.

    • 10

Place the clear, protective sheet on top of the photo.

    • 11

      Slide everything into your frame.
