How To Turn 35mm Slides into Photos

With advances in camera technology comes the desire among many to transfer our slides and film into a digital format. While some companies offer scanning services for a fee, it can be done at home if you have a scanner equipped with a transparent materials adapter. The adapter allows the scanner to read slides and film strips and translate them into digital files.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your slides into the template of your transparent materials adapter. This is the adapter that allows the scanner to read slides and negatives.

    • 2

Cover any empty spaces in the template with the light shields that are provided. Inserting the light shields keeps extra light from getting in while you are scanning.

    • 3

Lay the template face down on the scanner glass, making sure the arrow on the template is lined up with the mark on the corner of the scanner bed.

    • 4

Press the "Scan Film" button on the scanner menu. A "Scanning from" dialogue box appears.

    • 5

Click "Change settings" in the "Scanning from" dialogue box. Select "Slides or positives" from the "Scan type" selections. Click "OK."

    • 6

Enter the location where you want your scanned slides saved, then click "OK" to begin the scanning process.
