How To Make Yearbook Photos
Educate yourself on the basics of photography before setting out to make photos you want to publish. Familiarize yourself with what makes a good photograph, including composition and how aperture and shutter speed affect an image.
Look for interesting subject matter for candid photos or set up an appropriate backdrop for portraits. Some yearbooks use portraits shot in front of a backdrop, while some use portraits shot outside with a natural background. Make sure, in either case, that the background is not distracting or overly busy.
Use a flash for all photos taken indoors and to soften shadows outdoors. Attach a bounce diffuser to the flash to avoid harsh lighting on the subject̵7;s face or use an off-camera lighting set up.
Avoid direct sunlight so that the subject is not squinting and to minimize the effect of shadows in the photograph.
Compose your shot and make sure the subject is in perfect focus and press the shutter release button. In a portrait, the subject should be facing the camera with a smile or other pleasant expression.
Review your finished photographs and discard any images of low quality or bad lighting. Poor photos will bring down the overall quality of your yearbook and should be re-shot.
