How to Print Photo From Transparencies

In the past if you wanted to print a photo from a transparency, you had to send if off to a photo lab, who in turn, had to have another lab make a color negative from the transparency before they could make a print for you. This process took longer, added another step to the print process, and cost more money. Fortunately, digital photo technology has changed all this, and today, all you have to do is make a scan from your transparency, save it to a file, and then make a color print from it.

Things You'll Need

  • Transparency
  • Flat bed scanner with 35 mm slide template
  • Computer
  • Jet printer or laser printer

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the 35 mm slide template over the bed of the scanner. Then place your slide in the open area in the middle of the template with the printed side of the slide facing up.

    • 2

Open the scanner program on your computer. A split screen will pop up with task options on one side and the image area of the scanner ruled off on the other side. Click on "35 mm" from the drop-down menu of task options.

    • 3

Next, click "Preview" at the bottom of the image area side of the split screen. This will instruct the scanner to make a preview scan of the slide, from which you can then make adjustments and corrections to the image before proceeding to the final scan.

    • 4

Before making the final scan, set the resolution for the scan to 2700 dpi, or the highest setting available for optimal quality.

    • 5

Click "Scan" when you are satisfied that you have made all the necessary adjustments.

    • 6

When finished, click "Done," and save the image to a file on your computer. Use this file to make a print from with your jet or laser printer.

    • 7

Set the printer program to "Best" for the highest quality. Use "coated" photo paper (available in glossy or matte surface on double weight paper) to achieve the best quality for your photo transparency print.
